How long does uploading take?
The speed of your upload depends on the speed of your Internet connection. If you have a 56k modem, it will take approximately 2 minutes to upload a 500k digital photo file. The faster your Internet connection, the less time it will take to upload your photos. When you use QuickUpload, we'll indicate how long the upload will take for both a 56k modem and a DSL/Cable modem connection.

Is there any charge for uploading?
No. Uploading and sharing your digital photos is completely free!

What type of photo file can I upload to my York account?
When you use our QuickUpload tool, you can copy the following types of digital photos from your computer to your online York account:

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe)
  • Windows Bitmap (.bmp)
  • Zip file (containing JPEGS only)
If you use one-by-one upload, you can copy the following types of digital photos from your computer to your online York account:
  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe)
  • Zip file (containing JPEGS only)
Any digital photo you upload must have an ending that matches one of the above file types (e.g., niagarafalls.jpg). Whichever type of file you use, the copy that you upload will be converted to JPEG format before it's added to your account.

NOTE: Whenever you upload a digital photo to your online account, only a copy of it is placed in your account. The original digital photo file remains unchanged on your computer.

Why can't I see the file extensions on my photo files?
Your PC may be set to hide file extension at the end of file names. If the names of your files don't end with a dot and a three- or four-letter extension (.jpg, .zip, etc.) this setting is easy to change:

  1. Return to your computer's desktop and double click on the 'My Computer' icon.
  2. When the window is open, click on the 'View' menu and choose 'Folder Options.'
  3. Click on the 'View' tab at the top of the window.
  4. Uncheck the box labeled 'Hide file extensions for known file types' and click on the 'OK' button to confirm your change.
  5. You should now see the file extensions at the end of all file names.

For how long are my photos stored on York?
